Kumiko Work
New tool arrived! Had to start putting it to work. Wood is Port Orford Cypress, which smells wonderful. I have more strips to thickness now, before starting to fit the internal pieces. I'm very happy with the fits so far, some careful layour and cutting on the miter box makes for really easy work once the prep is done.
My layout was a little tedious, to continue I think I need a fixture with interchangeable sawing guides for square and triangular cuts and of different pitches.

Cool! I've been wanting to make a Japanese lamp. I love you depth stop on your saw. Nice lookin' block plane too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm pretty happy with the depth stop too, the binder clips add way less weight than any clamp I have in the shop.
DeleteThe plane is the Bridge City Toolworks HP-8 with depth skids, makes perfectly even slats every time.
Good advise. Do you have a jig for the mitsu-kude, the 3 way joint and depth of cut? Can you post pics and descriptions?
ReplyDeleteI've got a standard small wooden miter box, and this one isn't a three way joint. It's only the square grid and individual diamond ended pieces to fit the diagonal.
